Ten companies comprised the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia: five from Boston, one from North Bridgewater, one from Abington, one from Weymouth, one from Stoughton, and one from Gloucester. After organization was completed, the regiment was ordered to Fort Warren in Boston Harbor. Henry Wilson (born Jeremiah Jones Colbath; February 16, 1812 – November 22, 1875) was the 18th vice president of the United States (1873–75) and a senator from Massachusetts (1855–73).
